Americana Pipedream teamed up with Woobie Gear to build the Woobie Hoodie, a wearable take on one of the most beloved pieces of gear the U.S. military has ever issued. The original poncho liner, nicknamed the "woobie," was introduced to US troops in Vietnam as a lightweight alternative to the standard wool blanket, which was miserable in the region's heat and humidity.
It caught on fast: by 1969 the Army had procured nearly 3 million of them, and to this day plenty of veterans would rather pay a field-loss fee than actually turn theirs in. This hoodie borrows that same construction, a nylon shell over a polyester lining, and turns it into something you can wear out the door.
The shell has a DWR (durable water resistant) coating that holds up to real outdoor use, whether that's a backpacking trip or just walking the dog in the rain. Details include an "AP" embroidery on the left chest, a drawstring hood, a front pocket, and rib-knit cuffs and waist for a snug fit. It's designed and embroidered in the US.
