Issued US M1936 Field Suspenders
Issued US M1936 Field Suspenders
Note: Genuine issued surplus; expect honest age-appropriate wear consistent with WWII and Korea-era field gear.
Issued US M1936 Field Suspenders
These are genuine M-1936 field suspenders, part of the individual equipment set the US Army adopted in 1936 as it modernized infantry gear ahead of World War II. A pistol belt or cartridge belt alone couldn't comfortably carry a soldier's full combat load, so the suspenders were added to transfer that weight onto the shoulders. They were issued across every branch of the Army, and were especially common among paratroopers, officers, and other specialized troops who weren't issued the M1928 haversack. Clipped to the back, they also let a soldier wear the M1936 musette bag as a rucksack, or as a shoulder bag using the bag's extra strap.
Construction is heavy cotton canvas webbing, typically in the OD #3 khaki-green shade standard to the era, with steel D-ring or spring-hook hardware and brass sliders for adjustment. They saw continuous service from World War II through Korea before being phased out by later load-bearing equipment.
They're a natural fit for anyone building a period-correct WWII or paratrooper impression, completing an M1936 pistol belt or musette bag set, or simply wanting genuine, functional suspenders rather than a modern reproduction.
The Short & Sweet:
- Genuine issued US M-1936 field suspenders

- Heavy cotton canvas webbing, steel hardware, brass adjustment sliders
- Compatible with the M1936 pistol belt, M1923 cartridge belt, and M1936 musette bag
