TAZ 83, officially Tarnanzug 1983, is a simplified update to Switzerland's original 1957 Alpenflage combat uniform, using the same vivid, multicolor camouflage pattern that traces back to Germany's late-WWII Leibermuster design. Some sources say Switzerland got the original roller-printing equipment through Czechoslovakia after the war. Swiss troops had a less flattering name for the pattern themselves: Vierfruchtpyjama, or "four fruit pajamas."
The fabric is tough but genuinely comfortable to wear, with two front chest pockets closed by snap flaps, one additional pocket on the left arm, elastic zip-up cuffs, and a zip-up snap-cap front. It's a simple, rugged design without much to overthink.
