Mil-Tec Woodland Commando Sleeping Bag
Mil-Tec Woodland Commando Sleeping Bag
A lightweight, packable sleeping bag in US M81 Woodland; the camouflage pattern that defined American military service for over two decades. Built for three-season use, compact enough to throw in a pack without thinking about it.
The Pattern
US M81 Woodland is one of the most recognizable camouflage patterns ever produced. Introduced in 1981 as the standard-issue pattern for the US Armed Forces, it replaced the earlier ERDL pattern and served as America's primary military camouflage through Desert Storm, Panama, Somalia, the Balkans, and the early years of the Global War on Terror, a run of more than two decades before being superseded by the UCP digital pattern in 2004. The four-color scheme of black, brown, olive green, and khaki was designed for the temperate and forested environments of Central Europe, and it remains one of the most effective and widely respected woodland patterns in military history.
This is a Mil-Tec commercial product, not genuine US military surplus. What it carries is the pattern's heritage and a straightforward, well-built piece of kit at a price that makes sense.
What It Is
The Commando Sleeping Bag is built for three-season camping, field use, car camping, emergency preparedness, or anyone who wants a compact bag that doesn't demand careful handling. The waterproof, water-repellent polyester shell sheds light moisture and morning dew without the fuss of a dry bag. The soft polyester fill, 150g per square meter, keeps you comfortable down to 15°C (59°F) and functional in temps down to 10°C (50°F). This is a spring, summer, and early fall bag. It is not a cold weather bag.
At 950g, just over two pounds, it packs down to 15.4 x 7 x 7 inches and disappears into the bottom of a pack or the trunk of a car without complaint.
Construction Details
The two-way zipper runs along the left side, allowing ventilation from the foot up or full opening when temperatures climb. A hook-and-loop zipper guard runs the full length to prevent the zipper snagging fabric in the night. A warmth collar along the zipper line blocks cold air from drafting in at the chest, a detail that matters at the lower end of the comfort range. The integral hood cinches with a drawstring for head and neck coverage, and the included stuff sack keeps everything contained and ready to go.
