Issued vz. 58 Sling
Issued vz. 58 Sling
This is an issue sling for the Sa vz. 58, the standard rifle of the Czechoslovak army from 1959 until the early 1990s. The vz. 58 looks like an AK-47 at a glance, and Czechoslovakia did adopt the same 7.62x39mm cartridge under Warsaw Pact pressure to standardize ammunition, but the rifle itself was a completely separate design.
Czechoslovakia was the only Warsaw Pact country that didn't simply adopt a licensed AK-47 variant, choosing instead to keep building its own weapons using its own mechanism, a short-stroke gas piston with a tilting locking block rather than the AK's rotating bolt. No part, including the magazine, interchanges between the two rifles. Over 920,000 were produced between 1959 and 1984, and beyond Czechoslovak service, it saw use in Cuba and a number of African and Asian conflicts.
The sling itself is a simple canvas and leather construction, genuine military issue rather than a modern reproduction. While it was built for the vz. 58, standard sling swivel spacing means it works just as well on many other long guns, making it a practical, no-frills option even outside vz. 58 ownership specifically.
The Short & Sweet:
- Genuine issue sling for the Czechoslovak Sa vz. 58 rifle
- Canvas and leather construction
- Compatible with many other long guns using standard swivel spacing
- Used condition, signs of wear expected
- Color varies between khaki/brown and olive drab/green
